International Forgiveness Day | IFD
On September 18, 2019, the first edition of the International Day of Forgiveness took place.
This event brought together:
about twenty countries;
a dozen different approaches to forgiveness;
more than 130 events gathering from a few dozen to a few hundred participants.
As the media (TV, radio, newspapers, online media) have well understood and welcomed it, the International Day of Pardon has encouraged the spread of this new understanding of forgiveness that has been emerging over the last ten or twenty years.
This is characterised in particular by the following points:
forgiveness is not necessarily religious: it can also be achieved through various secular approaches;
forgiveness is first of all a gift that we make to ourselves: not only does it heal the wounds of the heart, restoring our capacity to love, it improves our relationships (including with ourselves), but it also has many beneficial effects on health;
forgiveness does not exclude justice: we can both implement it and file a complaint if necessary, but with a peaceful heart.
There are many ways to access forgiveness today: it is up to each one of us to find the one that suits us best.
Given this initial success, the various organizers and partners of this event are already planning to repeat it next year at the same time! We hope to be able to reach more countries, raise awareness among more people, and contribute to overcoming all divisions to work together to improve human relationships.
See you in early 2020 to start planning this event together!
Thanks to everyone who organized local events that day. Thanks to everybody who participated, either in person or online, to the events that were relayed via streaming.
Hope to see you next year!
